Wonders of Neti Pot

April is moments away, and so are the blossoms, grasses and hay fever.

If you are prone to hay fever, rhinitis (drippy nose), or suffer from a nasal cold, consider using a neti pot to clear your sinuses. It is also beneficial for reducing the severity of a COVID infection.

What is a Neti Pot and where can you get it?

Neti Pot is what I’m putting into my nose in the above photo. The process irrigates your nasal passages using a gentle, warm, saline solution to flush out mucus, allergens, and other debris (?). Neti pots are commonly used to relieve symptoms of sinus congestion, allergies, and sinusitis.

The neti pot is a small ceramic, plastic or metal container that can look like Aladdin’s Lamp. It has become so popular you can buy one at your local drug store, along with packets of the saline solution.

You can make your own solution by mixing about ¼ tsp of natural sea salt, or Himalayan salt, with 8 oz of warm water in the neti pot. Adjust the amount of salt to the sensitivity of your nasal cavity. Boil distilled or sterilized water, then let cool to room temperature. Unless you boil tap water for 3 to 5 minutes, it’s best not to use as it can cause infection.

Tilt your head to one side and insert the spout into the top nasal passage. Using about half the solution, allow it to flow out the other nostril. This process is then repeated on the other side to cleanse both nasal passages. Then have a nice blow. It is important to use sterile water and follow proper hygiene practices when using a neti pot to avoid the risk of infection.

Doing the neti pot, twice a day on a regular basis has shown to reduce sinus congestion and number of infections, allergy relief, improved breathing and sense of smell.

Go ahead! Enjoy the magic of your own Aladdin’s Lamp.

Let me know how this works.
